White Bathing Suits

Does ocean water ruin white bathing suits?

I was told that swimming in the sandy ocean water ruins the white parts of bathing suits. However, I can't find a single thing online that confirms or denies this! I'm hoping to go to the beach this summer and I need a new bathing suit, but I don't want to waste the money if it's just going to get ruined. I've been trying to find a bathing suit without any white in it, but most of the ones I like are patterened and have at least a little white. Does anyone know if the ocean really does discolor white bathing suits? Thanks!

  1. I have never heard that anywhere. Just stay away from swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico, because oil doesn't help white swim suits.
  2. No. What ruins suits are just not taking care of them, and even then they aren't made to last forever. Just once you get home take your hose and wash off all the sand. Just like surfers have to wash out wetsuits, and get sand off our boards cause sand isnt probably the best for the material. But if i were you i wouldnt worry much about it, just have fun! Its summer anyways!
  3. Pool water might tint it green, however...the chemical chlorine will do that.
